La Villa de los Papiros: workshops and visits for families

You ever wanted to visit an old roman mansion of in the city of Herculano? hablarenarte: invitives you to participate in our new workshop-visits to the exhibition, “La villa del Papiro”, currently on show at Casa del Lector.
In the 18th century investigators discovered in this mansion known as “the one of the papyro” the only known existing library of the old Rome. Here at Herculano and close to Naples, Italy, the ashes of the eruption in 79 DC of Vesuvius preserved this treasure for us. The exhibition shows us, what was reading about in the old Rome of the fist century DC and gives an insight on the impact that the discovery of Pompeij and Herculano had on the European culture in the 18th century.
The educational program for families with children between 6 and 12 consists of a dynamic visit to the exhibition. The ancient philosopher Epicuro himself shows us around. In the following workshop, the families will grasp a close look in the world of writing and reading papyro, creating a collaborative work.
