Forma y Valor. Monedas africanas tradicionales. Guided tour program
Centro Conde Duque. Calle Conde Duque, 9-11. Madrid
The coins assembled for the exhibition Forma y valor provide an exceptional opportunity to find out about monetary culture on the African continent and serve to reveal a bit more about the people who used them. The coins themselves are a reflection of the society from which they came, its beliefs, culture, economy, even of the technology that produced them.
Traditional African coins, as can be appreciated from the two hundred or more items in this collection, do not correspond with western forms and can be a big surprise. However, these objects have been used for the same purpose as any other coins in any other part of the world. The aesthetic interest and their refined shapes make these coins beautiful and desirable objects that gradually lost the use for which they were originally created.
The guided tours organised by hablarenarte: last about one hour and trace a route through the exhibition narrative based on a selection of exhibits. For people who prefer to tour the exhibition by themselves, there is a brief educational guide in electronic format to help them make the most of their visit.
