Escuela del Presente. Sao Paulo

Sao Paulo

Sao Paulo, Brasil.

There is knowledge.
There is knowledge in and out of school.
In the head, in the hands, in the guts and in the feet.
There is knowledge hidden far away, almost forgotten, and there is immediate knowledge, requested all the time, at the surface of the skin: it is almost possible to touch it.
There is knowledge that we do not know we have, knowledge that is forgotten, disregarded, discredited.
Knowledge that is missing and others that are surplus.
Knowledge that gives us joy or sorrow or both at the same time.
There is knowledge that we know we know, knowledge that we care about sustaining.
There is also knowledge that is like animals on the verge of extinction, that must be transmitted, bequeathed and cared for.

This workshop, led by María Jerez, and curated by hablarenarte, proposes an archeology and a shared wandering through our knowledge, based on a proposal of transmission between generations, people, situations and experiences. A small temporary community, a modest encounter, a possible legacy. A school of the present.

The workshop is structured in three sessions:

  • Wednesday, December 4: Mapping of knowledge with the elders of the Rosalía de Castro Charity Center.
  • Thursday, December 5: Mapping of knowledge with the students of the Escola da Cidade Institute.
  • Friday, December 6: Transmission of knowledge between the two communities at the Instituto Cervantes (Avda. Paulista).
