DINAMO #4
Creative Strategies of Sustainability for Cultural Initiatives is a programme organized with La Casa Encendida and Todo por la Praxis , coordinated by Werner Wiartalla, engineer at ufaFabrik (Berlin), and IDYS (instituto do it Yourself) from the 12th to the 18th of April 2017.
These sessions are framed within DINAMO, a programme for international knowledge exchange between independent cultural projects. DINAMO is searching for new forms of transferring and generating knowledge
Along with international experts from different areas, DINAMO, also developed at Centro Huarte (Pamplona) and Centre del Carme (Valencia), proposes a collective and experiencebased learning programme that includes a specific diagnosis of each participant project.
Dinamo #4 is structured as follows:
1. Public presentation: “Creative Strategies of Sustainibility. The case of ufaFabrik”

April 12 (19 - 21 h)
Werner Wiartalla, responsible for the Eco-office of ufaFabrik shares the key points and strategies that have made the independent centre ufaFabrik a benchmark of sustainability and ecology after 35 years and starts adialoguewith madrilian initiatives.
2. Collaborative Workshop on construction of green roofs and vertical gardens at IDYS.
April 13, 14, 15 (10 to 14 h and 16 to 18 h)
Through an open call (open from March 16 to April 4) , 20 ecology and sustainability-related projects are selected to be part of a workshop on open source green roofs and vertical garden building methods.
Guided by Werner Wiartalla and IDYS, the objective of the workshop is to share knowledge and experiences on sustainibility and energy self-sufficiency, in dialogue with independent cultural initiatives of Madrid.
3. Public presentation of the results of the workshop.

Engineer and physicist Werner Wiartalla lives and works in ufaFabrik, developing and implementing ecological projects, always looking for creative synergies and the human aspects in the technical world. For over 20 years, Werner Wiartalla has led the design and building of practical solutions to the centre’s energy, water and waste problems: green roofs; green facades; heating systems; cogenerating systems; special voltage stabilisers; composting systems; rainwater harvesting, solar energy and wind power are just some of the design and build schemes that Werner has conceived at ufaFabrik.
UfaFabrik. In the summer of 1979 more than 100 engaged people peacefully took over the desolate grounds and created a comprehensive work and living project. Today the ufaFabrik is a green cultural oasis in the middle of Berlin - a space for creation and culture, for innovative ideas, a productive surrounding for the citizens of Berlin and for artists from all over the world. The area of 16.000 square meters is divided into various areas, two podiums are open year-round for artistical productions: world music, cabaret, conferences, Variété, dance theatre, comedy, children’s circus and more. UfaFabrik gives work to 120 to 200 people, depending on the season, and hosts about 200.000 visitors per years.
